2020–2021: Why we started

Mohan and Rouvin met at General Electric, where Mohan worked in corporate finance and helped digitise operations. Rouvin later moved into equity investment at CIMB. After almost two decades abroad, Mohan came back to Malaysia and couldn't find business finance tools that fit how modern companies work.

They spoke to more than 100 digital-first businesses and heard the same story every time: receipts everywhere, spending on personal cards and month-end closes that took days. Many had accepted slow, manual finance as normal. The idea for Swipey came in 2020, and the company was incorporated in 2021.

2021–2022: First customers and physical cards

Swipey signed its first customer in October 2021, the same month it hired its first full-time team. In 2022 we launched physical cards, so teams could pay in person as well as online.

2023–2024: Recognition and accounting integrations

In 2023 Swipey won a Triple A Treasuries award for Best New Economy Solution. In 2024 we passed 1,500 customers and added accounting software integrations, so card spend could flow straight into the books. That December, Swipey secured funding from 1337 Ventures.

2025: DuitNow QR and faster book closing

In March 2025, PayNet and Swipey announced a partnership to bring DuitNow QR into the Swipey platform, replacing petty cash with digital payments. We also launched Alfie, which matches snapped receipts to card transactions, and deepened accounting sync with QuickBooks and Xero. Read the full recap in we made 3 bets in 2025, and they all paid off.

2026: 4,000+ businesses

Today, more than 4,000 Malaysian businesses use Swipey. We added a Bukku integration, and Corporate Cards now earn 1.1% cashback on eligible software, digital subscription and online business services spend, with no monthly cap per company (1 October 2026 to 30 June 2027, T&Cs apply). Swipey customers close their books up to 12x faster and save up to RM100k a year.

How businesses get started on Swipey, step by step

To show how it works in practice, here's the journey of Amin, an illustrative business owner. Amin isn't a real customer, but every step is how Swipey works today.

For years Amin ran his business the old way: receipts everywhere, spreadsheets all over and late nights fixing numbers that didn't add up. Here's how he got from sign-up to a clean month-end.

1. Sign up and get verified

Amin signed up online and completed eKYC. Any Malaysian-registered business can sign up, including sole proprietors.

2. Book the Swipey success session

Once approved, Amin booked his Swipey success session with a finance operations specialist. In one call he learned how to issue cards, set spend limits and run his finances without the chaos. It wasn't a sales pitch, just a shortcut to setting things up the right way.

3. Invite the team

Amin's finance assistant was juggling the same spreadsheets and chasing the same receipts. A few clicks later she had her own login, her own card and her own spending limit. No more shared cards, no more forwarded OTPs and no more "can you send me the receipt?" messages. Users and Corporate Cards are free and unlimited.

4. Fund the company account

Nothing moves without funds, so Amin topped up the company's Swipey account, the central pot that feeds every card, by FPX or bank transfer. From there he allocated funds to each card in seconds, with full control over how much goes where.

5. Issue cards and spend

Amin's Corporate Card, a virtual Mastercard, was ready to use online straight away for subscriptions and software. Every time he spent, he could snap the receipt for Alfie to match, add a note so everyone knew what it was for and see the transaction in real time. Staff who pay in person use the Travel Card, and local merchants can be paid by DuitNow QR with the Virtual Card - QR Enabled.

6. Pay bills, vendors and the team

Invoices, salaries and vendor renewals never stop. With Swipey bill payments, Amin forwarded bills to his Bill Inbox, where Alfie filled in the details. He paid a whole batch at once by DuitNow, GIRO or JomPAY, scheduled approved bills for their due date and sent payouts to his freelancers in one go. Swipey emailed each vendor their receipt. 7. Close the month

Month-end used to be the week Amin dreaded. This time every transaction was already logged, named cards meant spend was sorted by purpose and statements were one click away. Swipey synced to QuickBooks, so clean numbers flowed straight into the books. Amin reviewed, his assistant confirmed and the books closed in hours, not days. See how to sync card spend to Xero, QuickBooks and Bukku.

8. Scale up

As the team grew, Swipey grew with it: more users, more cards, tighter limits and, when Amin opened a second company, multi-entity management from one login. He wasn't just managing money anymore. He was in control of it.
