Quick answer
Cradle Fund offers two grants for Malaysian tech startups: CIP Spark (up to RM150,000) and CIP Sprint (up to RM600,000). Both are paid through advance payment and reimbursement against milestones, so how well you evidence your spending decides how smoothly each payment arrives. To claim smoothly, keep grant-funded spending separate with one card per grant budget, attach a receipt to every transaction and export a clean statement for each claim period.
Winning a Cradle grant is the hard part. Claiming it shouldn't be. Every milestone means proving where the money went, by category, with a receipt for each ringgit. Startups that track this as they go submit faster. Startups that rebuild it from bank statements and WhatsApp photos at claim time lose days, sometimes weeks.
Cradle currently runs two Cradle Investment Programme (CIP) grants:
| CIP Spark | CIP Sprint | |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | Up to RM150,000 | Up to RM600,000 |
| Stage | Development / pre-seed | Commercialisation |
| Duration | Up to 18 months | Up to 18 months |
| Who can apply | Teams of 2+ individuals, or an LLP, enterprise or Sdn Bhd incorporated under 5 years with under RM3 million accumulated revenue | Sdn Bhd incorporated under 7 years, under RM5 million accumulated revenue, paid-up capital of at least RM10,000 |
| Spending split | At least 60% development, max 40% other (including commercialisation) | At least 60% commercialisation, max 40% other (including product development) |
| How it's paid | Advance payment and reimbursement against milestones | Advance payment and reimbursement against milestones |
Both grants are conditional, and recipients may have to repay disbursed funds if the agreement is terminated. Full eligibility criteria are on Cradle's CIP Spark and CIP Sprint pages.
Cradle doesn't hand over the full grant on day one. Each subsequent advance and reimbursement depends on meeting your milestone deliverables, and any unused amount is deducted from the next advance. In practice, every claim period you need to show:
Your funding agreement sets the exact format, so read it before your first claim. The habit that matters is the same either way: capture the evidence when the money is spent, not three months later.
The simplest way to keep grant money clean is to give each grant budget its own card. Swipey Corporate Cards are virtual Mastercards for online spend, and they're free and unlimited, so you can map cards straight to your approved categories:
| Card name | Used for | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Grant · Commercialisation | Marketing tools, sales software, launch costs | Matches the approved amount for this milestone |
| Grant · Product development | Cloud hosting, dev tools, AI APIs | Matches the approved amount for this milestone |
| Operations (non-grant) | Everything the grant doesn't cover | Your own budget |
Then build three habits:
For suppliers who don't take cards, pay their invoices through Swipey bill payments so they sit in the same record as card spend. If a grant card is no longer needed, freeze it and claw back the balance. See our card controls guide.
Cradle doesn't publish a rejection checklist, but these gaps are the usual cause of rework and resubmission:

Voice for Health, an AI vocal biomarker startup, received a CIP Sprint grant. Before Swipey, founder Brandon Chua tracked expenses and receipts across several platforms and compiled them by hand for each milestone claim. With Swipey, every transaction was captured in one place with its receipt attached, so preparing each submission took a fraction of the time.
"Use it from the start, don't overthink it. Just try it out, and you'll grow to love it. This applies to both Cradle's grant programs and Swipey. Apply and see where it brings you."

Swipey has been through the Cradle process itself, so we built the platform with grant claims in mind.
Invite your accountant with the Bookkeeper role so they can check categories, notes and receipts and download reports for your Cradle submission, without being able to spend.

Keep grant-funded spending separate from day-to-day spending, ideally with one card per grant budget. Attach a receipt to every transaction and export a statement for each milestone claim period.
Not in full. Cradle pays through advance payment and reimbursement, and meeting milestone deliverables is a prerequisite for each subsequent payment. Unused amounts are deducted from the next advance.
